I have a slight problem.
Ray asked me to install a Ventrilo server for you guys (especially for those who play Warhammer).
The server is set up & working perfectly, however; the people who created Vent have restricted the amount of clients connecting to it to 8 people. If you want more, you gotta pay.
I am not gonna pay for such a crappy program (that's right, pro/contra below), if we can get it for free. However, that would mean you guys would have to change your client, and i don't want that to be a problem.
Why i don't like Vent: (Keep in mind that i have been working over 10 years in IT and am a systems engineer & programmer, had the time to test both ts and vent) - administration is a nightmare (too many menus, you get lost, terrible overview, etc) - it costs money if you want the full power - limited users to 8 - user can change bandwidth (should be reserved for the admin, as he knows how much his line can handle)
I am sure i am missing other points, but i will stick to my opinion. Teamspeak is better (ok, it doesn't look as fancy), and i am sure everyone is using a headset with volume control. Server interface is great, overview is easy and the admin can set the bandwidth. Memory-wise, both programs are pretty low for your computer which is very good.
I will designate a few administrators for the teamspeak & vent server.
The vent server will continue to run if you prefer that one. However once you reach 8 players, it will be full.
It's all up to you, so please use the poll above! Thank you!

I don't mind usuing Vent or TS. I usualy use the one that people prefer.
One thing I like about vent tho is the ability to adjust the volum of every users seperatly.

I prefer vent. At one time you could not adjust other people's volumes individually with TS (not sure if this has changed). this is why i don't like TS. not to mention my LCD on my keyboard supports vent, makes it easy to see who is speaking and all.

Wow that's a big plus for vent, will try and find out if ts does the same! Ts supports auto-voice normalizing, so you should not be fiddling with the volume of other people inside the room. LOL... that sounds... weird.

I like Vent over TS for the same reason Snap does. We have guildies whose natural speaking voice is way louder than others.... and some who are way softer. If TS allows us to change the volume or if it does it automatically that would be great! I am also looking into paying for a server but the cheapest I have found is $90 a year. I'm still looking. PS.... HI PASCALE!!! *huggles*

Ok, i have been looking into this for some time now, the only solution i got is this: When you join the Teamspeak Server, ask for help to adjust input and output volume and let you give feedback to your audio quality and how understandable you are. The target is, that all users have the same loudness when they normally speak and not one is very loud and an other user is quiet. That's all i can suggest atm. Or i could continue to crack vent. We'll see. Atm both are up and running. Info (still the same):
teamspeak (ask Ray or me for password): swp.game-host.org:8767 (default port)
vent: swp.game-host.org:3784 (default port, no password).

We have been discussing in WoW about checking into paying for a vent server for a year. The cheapest I have found is around $92.00 for a year for 40 slots. That would give us more than eneough (I think) for WoW and Warhammer guild members (as well as SWG if any are still around). I don't think Smacki would mind if he and I did it if we had some people to help pay for it. So if anyone is interested in this route and can help contribute, please let me know! I'd really like to see all of us be able to chat on one server again.
