Serenity Now! The calming effects of Tranquilizing Shot
Tranquilizing Shot is a very situational hunter shot that is used to remove, as the ability states, "1 Frenzy Effect from an enemy creature." Prior to the Burning Crusade expansion, this ability was learned via a book (Tome of Tranquilizing Shot) that dropped from Lucifron in Molten Core. Now, this is a skill available from any Hunter class trainer.
The shot can be used once every twenty seconds (if you've got the mana). The Shot can miss and it can be resisted. Remember - Frenzy is not the same as Enrage and as such, Tranquilizing Shot does nothing to an NPC that is enraged (unless said NPC frenzies as well, like Chromaggus). Frenzy is an increase in attack speed, while enrage is an increase in both damage and attack speed.
As mentioned, though, the ability is highly situational. There are very few NPCs that it can be used on and as such, it's handy to know ahead of time which NPCs are vulnerable to the effects of Tranquilizing Shot.
Here, then, is a list of enemy creatures that it can be used upon:
Azshara: Maws [Quest NPC]
Burning Steppes: Klinfran the Crazed [Hunter Epic Quest NPC]
Winterspring: Artorius the Doombringer [Hunter Epic Quest NPC]
Molten Core: Magmadar [Boss]
Blackwing Lair: Death Talon Seether [Trash], Chromaggus [Boss] & Flamegor [Boss]
Zul'Gurub: High Priest Thekal [Boss] & Hakkar the Soulflayer [Boss - but only if High Priest Thekal remains up]
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj: Qiraji Slayer [Trash] & Princess Huhuran [Boss]
Naxxramas: Gluth [Boss]
Terokkar Forest: Slaag [Quest NPC]
Black Morass: Aeonus [Boss]
Shadow Labyrinth: Cabal Zealot (in Demon Hound mode) [Trash]
The Arcatraz: Soul Devourer [Trash]
Underbog: Lykul Stinger [Trash]
Serpentshrine Cavern: Tidewalker Warrior [Trash] & Underbog Colossus [Trash]
Hyjal Summit: Ghoul [Trash]
Black Temple: Leviathan [Trash], Ashtongue Feral Spirit [Trash], Bonechewer Brawler [Trash] & Hand of Gorefiend [Trash]
*new* Zul'aman: Amani Bear [Trash], Amani Bear Mount [Trash], Amani Dragonhawk [Trash] & Halazzi [Boss]
While not a common strategy, Tranquilizing Shot can also be used on Hunter pets when they gain 'Frenzy' from the talent in the Beast Mastery tree, in PvP situations. Note: This is not the same as Beastial Wrath, which cannot be removed in this manner.
