Question came up last night about who should be allowed to have precedence on loot rolls. Should a main be able to have it over someones alt if it is the mains off-spec.
First let's define what is a main spec and what is an off spec. Your main spec is the spec that you are using primarily for that run.
I'll use a druid as an example moonkin/feral tank dual spec. If i tank an instance my spec is feral tank and should a caster leather piece drop then I should not be allowed to roll on it until it's determined nobody in the group can use it for their main spec. This is pretty much standard.
Lets take it a bit further. We know that other classes can use spell leather, so using the same scenario a holy pally sees it as an upgrade and it's his main spec. Should he be allowed then to roll on the item even though it is an armor class beneath him? My opinion would be dependent on how often the druid switches spec's. if the druid spends equal time tanking/caster dps'ing then the druid should take precedence as it is a leather piece.
Let's take it even further. A tanking ring drops. i am on a dps spec'ed Death Knight, which is my 3rd alt. Another player is on their main tank that is filling a dps role to change things up a bit and allow others to get tanking experience. It is an upgrade for my alt, and also for the main tank. Who should be allowed to roll? Personally i would say the main tank as it is a good upgrade for him and I would defer to him. More for the fact that it is the players main, and not their alt. But we also want to be fair to everyone that goes on the run.
This is why this topic needs to be discussed and some sort of rule made after the discussion. There will be issues and if we can set up the rules now then the issue won't come up in a heroic/raid.
The raid rules touch on dual spec a little but not enough to prevent questions.
